This is my parents conversation last night while we finished up painting the living room.
"Connie, would you look for spots that need touch ups, I'm blind." "Yep." Mama says. So my mom finds six spots in the matter of thirty seconds. My dad's tired response,"Connie, would you do me a favor and like not find any more spots?" C'mon...that's dumb.

I think what the problem is, is that your father was looking for some loving admiration from his beatiful wife hoping for a "no it looks great hunny" not actually expecting her to find anything wrong.(unintentionally crushing him with her words) Because as we all know every thing a man does is perfect the first time. I think what your mom needs to do is look in the mirror and say ITS NOT ABOUT You! and the turn to her husband and say It's about you.
Unless that is your father truly is blind in which case he should have had the dog check for spots.
